![]() Even after ten centuries of peace and righteousness, led by Christ Himself, so many people will be willing to follow Satan that "their number is like the sand of the sea." Once again, those who oppose God will be soundly defeated-this time, however, Satan is cast forever into the lake of fire. This is a sad commentary on man's limitless ability to reject God and follow his own stubborn pride. Satan's release at the end of the thousand years results in a rebellion. During this time, those who were saved during the tribulation are brought back to life: the first resurrection (Revelation 20:1–6). Part of this binding, and eventual releasing, seems to be to prove that mankind is desperately wicked-even after a millennium of peace, some people will still choose to reject God, as seen later in the chapter. During this time, it seems Satan is not allowed to exert his normal influence on the world. John sees an angel binding Satan with a great chain and confining him to the bottomless pit for a thousand years. This chapter unfolds the Devil's destiny afterwards. Following that conflict, the two Satanic figureheads are cast into the lake of fire. In prior chapters, John described his vision of the final judgments on earth, leading up to the defeat of the Antichrist and the False Prophet at Armageddon. 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. ![]() 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (We're looking at you, Bella Swan!) Here's how the cast of Twilight should really look, according to the books.1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. Plus, we've got some of the original illustrations to show you how the movie was at times eerily perfect. To prove our point, our brilliant Photoshop team worked their magic on some of the characters to reveal how the movie sometimes got things pretty right and sometimes totally missed the mark. While some of the characters came to life just as written, others were practically unrecognizable. From the impossible beauty (and sparkles) of the Cullen family vampires to the papery skin textures of the Volturi guardsmen to the animal strength of the Quileute pack members, Meyer's attention to descriptive detail meant the cinematic iterations had to be perfectly faithful to keep fans happy. The movie adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga were beset with ridiculously high fan expectations thanks to how much adulation the characters' looks received through the eyes of central narrator Bella Swan.
